     Instead of the traditional strategy of only using Wall Street firms to provide investments, SBAIA employs an enhanced approach that we strongly believe has been proven time and time again to be superior.

     We evaluate the services offered by local and regional banks and financial firms alongside those offered by Wall Street, to provide more investment options and flexibility for our clients.

     These proposed investments and services are then evaluated following the recommended ‘Safe Harbor’ guidelines in IRS regulations (26 CFR 1.148-5) to determine the best return based on actual numbers, not projections or stated fees.

     This approach provides all interested parties with an equal opportunity to offer financial services to our clients – an approach that we believe is unique to our firm. On top of all this, our senior staff has assisted with more investment of Michigan bond proceeds over the last ten years than any other firm, big or small.

     I have been part of the Michigan business community for over four decades, so naturally I am a strong supporter of utilizing Michigan businesses whenever it is competitive and a rational business decision. We all realize that when a dollar leaves our state, for the most part it is gone forever. However, studies have indicated that a dollar kept locally can provide a 6 times financial benefit to Michigan. Money goes to your local bank, who loans it to a local company, who hires Michigan workers, who spend the money on goods and services – you get the idea. The government also reaps a benefit: economists have estimated that each million dollars kept locally can produce as much as $200,000 in tax revenue for our state as it makes its way through the marketplace. It was these contributions that were integral in our development of a new and unique approach for managing bond proceeds in 2001.

     Since then, we have helped hundred of Michigan debt issuers to invest billions of dollars  - all of which involved Michigan businesses in one way or another.
